Winix has been in the air purification industry for the past 70 years and they have been quick to incorporate new features in their product line. They have a large range of air purifying products which are developed to meet the needs of consumers who are particular about breathing pure and pollutant-free air.So, today I’ve found some time to write a detailed review on the Winix PlasmaWave WAC5500 model.
So, today I’ve found some time to write a detailed review on the Winix PlasmaWave WAC5500 model. Here it goes!
Winix WAC5500 Features and Performance
3-Stage Air Filtration
This Winix WAC5500 model uses an effective three-stage air purification process to remove bad odors and pollutant particles from the air we breathe. Initially, the contaminated air passes through the Odor Absorbing Carbon Pre-Filter which eliminates VOCs (volatile organic compounds), cooking odors, pet smells and other bad odors. This carbon filter has numerous tiny pores which trap these odor molecules.
In the next level of filtration, the WAC5500 uses a highly effective True HEPA filter. Much of the air purification is done in this stage and the HEPA filter is capable of removing 99.9% of all pollutant particles which include the likes of pollen, dust, mold, pet dander and other microscopic organisms. It can filter particles that are as small as 0.3 microns in diameter size.
In the final stage, the partially clean air is exposed to the PlasmaWave technology. Here the air is ionized in order to remove allergens, chemical vapors, fumes and trace quantities of odors which might have managed to get through the initial stages of purification.
Winix PlasmaWave Technology
In the WAC5500 model air purifier, Winix uses a specialized PlasmaWave technology which is highly effective in dealing with trace elements like fumes, chemical vapors, disease causing germs and viruses. This technology ionizes the air at a molecular level to neutralize the contaminants. As a result, no ozone and other harmful byproducts are generated. Winix promises a complete ozone-free air.
Good Coverage and CADR
This air cleaner is designed for medium size rooms and apartments. It offers a great room coverage and it is capable of filtering and delivering clean air for living spaces up to 350 square feet in area. Personally, I prefer to use it within 300 sq ft area for effective cleaning.
I am not just vaguely suggesting this purifier; it is certified by the American Home Appliance Association and the CADR ratings are just an evidence of its purifying capabilities. It has a Clean Air Delivery Rating of 251 for Pollen, 216 for Dust and 235 for Tobacco smoke. These are some impressive numbers considering its large coverage area.
The WAC5500 uses smart sensors to constantly monitor the quality of indoor air. It then automatically adjusts it’s fan speed to get rid of airborne particles and bad odors. Apart from this, there is a Filter Change indicator which monitors the filter quality and alerts you when they need be replaced. Typically, the HEPA filter should be replaced annually and the carbon filter can be changed once in every six months.
The best part about this product is it’s ability to automatically dim the bright LED lights. The WAC5500 uses a LED Auto-Dim feature which senses the lighting around it and then automatically adjusts to the ambient light setting in the room. This is perhaps a great feature for someone like me who gives a lot of importance to beauty sleep.
This is one of those air purifiers which offer a great cleaning power and at the same time don’t cost a bomb! It has a pretty decent CADR ratings and is perfect for mid-sized rooms. The airflow noise can be particularly distractive, but I’ve noticed it only while operating in Turbo mode. Other fan speed level were much quieter and there was little to no noise produced.
