I cannot just tell you how much I love my loyal pet ‘Juno’. My love for him cannot negate the fact that his hair is all over my bedroom and the bad stench in the air, if he doesn’t get a shower every other day.
Today I’m going to review an air purifier that has been innovated and developed keeping pet owners like myself in mind. This device is meant for small to lower-mid size spaces and has some decent features to its name. Lets see what this purifier from Winix has to offer.
Winix WAC9500 Features and Performance
5-Stage Air Filtration process
This purifier from Winix uses five powerful filters to purify the room air. Polluted air which is pulled in through the air inlet in the front, which then passes through the 5 filters and clean and pollutant-free air is delivered at the end.
This washable pre-filter is right behind the front panel. It captures large sized airborne particles like dust, human hair, pet hair and lint.
In the second stage of filtration, bad air passes through a True HEPA filter. This filter is highly effective in removing air contaminants which are as small as 0.03 microns in diameter. Most (close to 99.9%) of the impurities get filtered in this stage.
Nano Silver Shield
In this layer nano sized silver particles are used to purify the air. This layer resides above the Carbon filter. This Nano Silver mesh acts as an anti-microbial shield and filters the harmful germs and bacteria by neutralizing them.
Granular Carbon Filter
In the fourth stage, air passes through an activated carbon filter which absorbs bad smells, harmful odors, pet odors etc. This layer is washable and is made of granular coconut shell charcoal which has tiny air spaces in which the air contaminants and odor molecules get trapped.
Ionizer with PlasmaWave Technology
This is the final stage of air purification in which PlasmaWave Technology is used to neutralize the airborne contaminants at a molecular level. Here large amounts of positively and negatively charged ions are produced. These ions react with the moisture (water vapor) thus forming Hydroxyl molecules. These molecules then attack the viruses, bacteria, VOCs, and other odors present in the air and neutralize them.
As we saw above this air purifier uses an ioniser in the final stage of filtration. Ioniser as such produces ions to eliminate harmful viruses, bacteria, germs, chemical vapors and odors. However these ions are also said to be harmful for human respiratory system.
The PlasmaWave Technology makes all the difference here. It eliminates the contaminants at a molecular level. As a result no Ozone gas or harmful by-products are produced.
This WAC9500 model has a Clean Air Delivery Rate of 182 for dust, 183 for smoke and 194 for pollen. It is Energy Star certified and uses less power to purify the contaminated air. This air cleaner is powerful and is best suited for small to lesser than medium sized living spaces and has a coverage area of 284 sq. ft.
It operates silently and produces just 36 decibels of noise while operating at a low fan speed. However, this may increase up to 48 dB when set at a high fan speed. This purifiers runs much silently when compared to other products in the same range.
Remote Control for Easy Operation
The best part about this air purifier is that its basic operations can be accessed with a remote control. This is a happy news for lazy users like myself.
This remote has a power button, plasma on/off button, timer, turbo, auto sleep and fan control buttons.
Multitude of Sensors and Indicators
Auto Mode – When set in auto-mode, the device automatically adjusts its fan speed based on the amount of impurities present in the room air.
Filter Replacement Indication – This one can be found on most of the air cleaning products these days. It reminds you when the filters need to be replaced.
Plasma mode Indicator – There is an option to turn on/off the PlasmaWave mode. I suggest you always set this mode ON, because it ensures that the output air is contaminant free.
Overall, this air cleaner with all its bells and whistles is sure to get a spot in my ‘best’ list. The ease of operation has been improved by including a remote along with a plethora of other useful features. Particularly the sleep mode, auto air detection mode were the most impressive.
